The award, now in its fifth year, recognises five international actors and actresses who have inspired popular acclaim from the British public.

Nominees must have featured in a film released in the current awards year, 1 January to 31 December 2009, with an extension period from 1 January to 19 February 2010.

Mulligan has been gaining rave reviews for her performance in An Education, Hoult stars alongside Colin Firth in Tom Ford’s A Single Man. Meanwhile, Rahim is the star of Jacques Audiard’s prison drama A Prophet; while Stewart starred in the Twilight Saga: New Moon opposite Robert Pattinson, as well as Greg Mottola’s fairground set romance Adventureland with fellow nominee Jesse Eisenberg.

A jury, led by producer and BAFTA chairman David Parfitt and industry figures including last year’s award winner Noel Clarke, casting director Fiona Weir and producer Pippa Harris, selected the nominees from a long list of recommendations put forward by BAFTA members.
Parfitt said: “The Orange Rising Star Award nominee list is as strong as ever and is sure to be one of the most anticipated awards of the night.”
The winner will be announced at the BAFTA ceremony on Sunday 21 February at London’s Royal Opera House.
