Saoirse to be action hero

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has been cast in the lead role in a new action-thriller called 'Hanna'.

She will reteam with “Atonement” director Joe Wright in “Hanna,” a Focus Features drama which gives the 15-year old actress the chance to be an action hero.

'Hanna' tells the story of a 14-year-old girl from Eastern Europe who has been raised by her ex- U.S. military father in the Swedish wilderness and trained as an assassin.
She uses the survival skills he taught her to battle U.S. intelligence agencies as she journeys across Europe to be reunited with him. But when she forms a friendship with a French family and their daughter, she must take a stand against the life which has been chosen for her.

Ronan's new film 'The Lovely Bones', in which she plays a murdered girl, is due to open in UK cinemas in February.

While “Atonement” cast her as a young girl who did a very bad thing, “Hanna” gives her a chance to play a total badass. Ronan was Oscar-nominated for “Atonement,” her breakout role.
