Stars of Tomorrow 2010

Screen International has just published its influential list of screen stars of the future. Some of Screenterrier's Brit picks are in there too...

First up is Sam Claflin. Currently in Hawaii shooting the young male lead role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Claflin is being hailed as the next Orlando Bloom. In his final year at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (Lamda), he nabbed a major role beside Hayley Atwell, Eddie Redmayne and Donald Sutherland in mini-series Pillars of the Earth and went straight onto the Syfy Channel's post-apocalyptic film The Lost Future and then to Channel 4's adaptation of William Boyd's Any Human Heart.

Also featuring is 13 year old Keira Knightley lookalike Ella Purnell. She plays the young version of Keira Knightley's character Ruth in Mark Romanek's forthcoming Never Let Me Go, and is currently filming alongside Clive Owen in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's Intruders. Last year, Ella also shot Gustavo Ron's Ways to Live Forever.

Also featured is Gwyneth Keyworth, one of Screenterrier's Faces to Watch in 2010, recently seen in Royal Wedding on TV, and will play  the role of Ruby Gammon this year alongside Jamie Winston in the forthcoming feature film Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons. Gwyneth is about to start filming the role of Hazel in the new BBC comedy 'The Great Outdoors'.

And Yasmin Paige, who starred on TV in the first two series of the Sarah-Jane Adventures and also Ballet Shoes, and will be seen as Jordan in up-coming feature Submarine.

Two other young actors on the list have been cast in HBO's highly anticipated fantasy drama  Game of Thrones, a new TV series based on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books, soon to start filming in Northern Ireland. Harry Lloyd, who will play Viserys Targaryen in the HBO series, is featured in the list, as is newly cast Emilia Clarke. One year out of the Drama Centre London, Emilia who grew up in Oxford, has landed the role of Daenerys in Game of Thrones, which is about to start shooting. Clarke replaced original choice Tamzin Merchant.

  1. I loved Screen Internationals pick this year and it's simply fantastic that ScreenTerrier has been reporting of them for yonks!
