First look - Daniel Radcliffe in The Woman in Black

Hammer Films' The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Ciaran Hinds and Janet McTeer started shooting this week. Pictured is Dan in his role as Arthur Kipps.

Hinds will play the local landowner who counsels Daniel Radcliffe as he investigates this Victorian mystery. McTeer will play Hinds’ on-screen wife, Mrs. Daily.

Directed by  James Watkins (Eden Lake) and written by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, The Debt), The Woman in Black follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote corner of the UK and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in an old and isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover its tragic secrets, and his unease grows when he discovers that the local village is held hostage by the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance.

Sophie Stuckey, soon to be seen as the lead in Summer in Transylvania, plays Arthur Kipps' doomed fiancee Stella.

Two young actors, who worked together in the summer on The Awakening, have been cast as some of the young children in the village, many of whom have mysteriously died.

9 year old Sidney Johnston will play the part of Nicholas Daily and 11 year old Alfie Field will play Tom Hardy.

Auditions have also been under way for a 3 - 5 year old boy to play Edward the son of Arthur Kipps.

The film is scheduled for release in October 2011.
