The successful E4 teenage drama has continued to grow in popularity with more than 1.5 million people tuning in to the start of the recent fourth series, and more than 8000 teenagers attending recent open auditions for cast members for the latest series.
The show's first two series featured actors such as Dev Patel, who went on to star in Slumdog Millionaire, and Nicholas Hoult, who starred in last year's A Single Man. And Kaya Scodelario who appeared in all four series is about to start shooting the role of Cathy in Wuthering Heights. Because the show is set in a sixth form college, the teenage actors were all changed for the third and fourth series and the same thing will happen for series five and six, which have already been commissioned.
Producer Steve Christian said the intention was to bring back characters from the first four series, but there would also be new characters. The script is being written by Jack Thorne, a regular Skins writer working with the show's creator Bryan Elsley, and another regular, Charles Martin, will direct.
Christian added: "Turning TV shows into films doesn't happen so much these days, probably because there's not the material out there. But what we don't want to do is to make a 90 minute episode of Skins. It would be a complete disaster."

"These two girls just took off," said director Stephen Frears "We just stood around with our mouths open, we were so impressed."
The former child star, but now 18 year old, Highmore, has recently completed filming on Homework in New York alongside Emma Roberts.

Course leader David Lambert taught the young actor after he was recommended to the group by a teacher and said he wasn't surprised that Sam had snared the top film part.
"It's his third big break really - one of the first jobs he got straight out of drama school last year was a five-part series with Donald Sutherland playing his father," said David.
"For a first job that's not bad! He's just one of those lads who's never going to stop."
"He's a talented lad and I think he's going to go a very long way," he added.
He is currently filming the younger version of rogueish Logan Mountstuart in Channel 4's adaptation of William Boyd's acclaimed novel Any Human Heart. "Newcomer, Sam Claflin embodies the idealism, vitality and naivety of the young Logan, where his lust for life and women truly begins as a student in Oxford and then Paris in the 1920s."
