An open breakdown has been issued for online submissions from boys and girls aged 9 - 14 years for 20th Century Fox's The Book Thief, the Michael Petroni-scripted adaptation of the Marcus Zusak novel that has been on the Children’s Chapter Paperback New York Times bestseller list for 228 weeks.
Twilight Saga‘s Karen Rosenfelt is producing, and filming is due to start this summer, with director Brian Percival (Downton Abbey) on board.
The WWII story involves Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich who survives by stealing books. Aided by her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with neighbors during bombing raids. One of those who benefits from the books is the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.
This is an open breakdown for two roles:
BOY (9 - 14),
GIRL (9 - 14).
HERE IS YOUR ASSIGNMENT:
Please explain why you have NOT done your homework!
There needs to be 3 versions:
1. A truthful and logical explanation
2. An outrageously over the top made up story
3. A sad emotional real excuse that is almost too difficult to talk about
Remember to include a full body slate with your full name, height, and how old you are.

ReplyDeleteIs there a specific ethnicity you must be?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the Book Thief casting page had now been updated to say they are currently only accepting submissions from the US and Canada. The UK and a list of UK agencies are still listed in the drop-down boxes on the application page so hopefully they will be accepted again shortly.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter Isabella Wren Sullivan submitted a video. The process is really easy, and the website explains exactly what is expected. Bella Wren loves Lisel. She listens to the audiobook endlessly. I think that this submission process is brilliant.
